Dear members of the Graduate Research Programme Changing Frames, dear readers

The first semester of the Graduate Research Programme Changing Frames, commenced in autumn 2018, was an eventful start for all of our fellows, supervisors and associates. After an internal kick-off event with several guests (12.10.2019), the fellows took up work on their individual projects. During the semester they actively attended numerous national and international scientific colloquia and conferences. To name a few examples, Lisa Braun and Verena Wallner attended the conference Special Objects. Norm und Form als Fragezeichen der Kunst, 1300-1500 organized by the Ferdinandeum in Innsbruck, Austria, while Denise Madsack participated in several international conferences such as Bridging the Gap: Theory and Practice in the Conservation of Contemporary Art in Maastricht, The Netherlands. V. Mandrij was a conference chair at the conference Negotiating Art and Faith at the Swiss Institute in Rome while Anna Thaler and Elisa Werner along with other fellows took part in the XXXV Congress of German Art Historians 2019 in Göttingen, Germany. The fellows also attended scientific lectures, workshops and museum exhibitions. Most fellows were able to establish new contacts with (potential) partners in society; Christiane Kritzer, for example, visited the Baumeister Archive (housed in the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart) several times, where she browsed through the collection while focusing on pastel and colour.

A comprehensive summary of the fellows’ activities with hyperlinks can be found in the German version.

In closing, we would like to bring the annual meeting of the Graduate Research Programme Changing Frames to your attention, which will take place at the University of Konstanz on 16 and 17 May 2019. Together with the postdoctoral researcher and project coordinator Dr Tilly Laaser, we are currently planning and organizing two days filled with inspiring lectures and discussions under the theme "Conservation: A Humanities Discipline?". We are already looking forward to welcoming both our national and international guests.

On behalf of all of our fellows, we send you our kind regards and best wishes from Lake Constance.

Lisa Braun and Elisa Werner
